Broadcasters of T20 World Cup 2014

With the inaugural edition of the ICC T20 World Cup, the event has been one of the most followed ICC events around the globe. The editions which followed the inaugural edition in 2007 have only added to the television ratings of the broadcasting channels of the event. Hence, it is always lucrative for broadcasters to get their hands on this biennial event. The 2014 ICC T20 World Cup would happen in Bangladesh in March and April. The speculations for Where and who will broadcast T20 matches is doing the rounds, considering that television has always been the major medium to render live matches to the cricket fans, in spite of the rise of internet and Smartphones oriented applications providing live scores.

The ESPN Star Sports has won the production and global media partnership of International Cricket Council for eight years, from 2007 to 2015. Hence, like the 18 ICC events to fall under this period, the 2014 T20 World Cup will also be broadcasted by ESS. The ESS has 2 major broadcasters on global platform. This makes ESPN Star Sports as the only complete sports broadcasting entity in Asia. Moreover, since the tournament is scheduled to happen in Bangladesh, ESS with its well spread out network is set to rule the television ratings.

In a network that spans around 24 countries, ESPN Star Sports has a total of 15 networks namely STAR Sports Taiwan, STAR Sports Singapore, STAR Sports Hong Kong, STAR Sports South East Asia, STAR Sports Asia, STAR Sports India, STAR Cricket, MBC – ESPN for Korea, ESPN Philippines, ESPN Hong Kong, ESPN Singapore, ESPN Taiwan, ESPN India, ESPN China and ESPN Asia. Besides ESPN, other channels are also expected to broadcast T20 World Cup matches like Sri Lanka Broadcasting Channel (SLBC) did during the 2012 edition which Sri Lanka hosted.
